Pike, Ruth Isabel (nee Hawkins)

After a short illness, passed away peacefully in her 99th year on February 3rd, 2020 at Erie Shores Health Care, Leamington.

Born November 27th, 1921 at Lyndhurst Hospital, 100 Yorkville Ave., Toronto. Predeceased by parents Hilda and Victor Hawkins, brother Douglas, and husband Sidney J. Pike. Survived by daughter Lois Pike and son William “Bill” Pike (Jennifer), granddaughters Laila Brand, Kristina Brand, Annie Pike, and great-grandsons Ethan, Nathaniel and Azarias Brand-Papazian, as well as nieces and nephews.

Ruth moved to Leamington from Toronto in 1952 when husband Sid was hired as a teacher at LDSS. Ruth was an athlete. In her earlier years she skied, played basketball and tennis. In Leamington she became an avid golfer, continuing to play until she was 90. Ruth was particularly proud of making a hole-in-one on three occasions. She was also a competitive curler, once reaching the Ontario finals. Ruth loved playing bridge, including duplicate, and was a skilled knitter and cross-stitcher. She volunteered with the Red Cross for many years, as well as the Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the United Church during her life in Leamington.
