Betty was born in Kingsville and attended the "little Kingsville Public School." She also attended Kingsville District High School in the first year it was built. She worked as a server at the Grovedale Restaurant. Betty got a degree from Cass Tech and earned an income with Singer Sewing Machine in Leamington and as a seamstress. Betty made her own wedding dresse and well as those for her bridesmaids. She also taught evening sewing lessons when her children were young.
When her children went off to Selkirk Public School, Betty took a position at Leamington District Memorial Hospital and did the payroll before there were computers! When she retired, Betty volunteered with the Hospital Auxiliary, acting as Vice President, President, Past President and Historian. She also acted as the buyer for the LDMH Gift Shop for many years. Shopping was one of her hobbies!! As was making homemade jam - she gave away hundreds of jars to her friends and co-workers over the years.
Betty was also an active member of the Kinette Club of Leamington back in the day, holding positions of Bulletin Editor, Treasurer, Vice President, President and Past President along with her husband Bob in the Kinsmen Club. They joined the K-40 Club in 1989 and spent many years socializing with their lifelong Kinsmen friends at Grey Cup, Super Bowl and New Year's Eve parties.
Betty will be greatly missed by her friends, co-workers and more recently by the people she met and connected with at Chartwell Retirement Residence in Kingsville.
