Dear JC and Jeff: I am so very deeply sorry for the loss of your father. I had the privilege of meeting him for the very first time, when I was one of a dozen or so young ladies who had the chance to work for CJSP/CHYR, when it was in downtown Leamington, over top of the sporting goods store, as the Saturday/Monday holiday receptionist. Your grandfather had come into the office one Saturday, and specifically asked not to be disturbed, as he had some important business to attend to. Your dad came bounding up the back staircase, and demanded to go in to see him. I had never met your father before this, and didn't know he was John Jr. I tried everything I knew to keep him out of the office, but he kept on getting louder and more obnoxious, until your grandfather came out and yelled that he wanted to know what was going on. All of a sudden, he looked at this "intruder", and was so shocked to see that it was your dad. Luckily, I was able to keep my job, as I tried so hard to explain that I didn't know Jr.
Your dad and I became friends after that, and he was actually an usher in my wedding (way back in 1979). A few years later, my hubby and I lost contact with the people who helped us celebrate that special day, and it was only recently that we discovered that your dad was in the Leamington area, and we had hoped to meet up with him again. John will be deeply missed -- he was certainly the life of any party!

I was 20 years old and still didn’t have a drivers license, or a car, because who needs a car when you grew up in a city with a major mass transit system? Well it was time. I had a learners permit and was tired of walking everywhere. John Garton had a new 1970 Ford Pinto with a 4 on the floor and showed me how to work a clutch. He sat in the passenger seat and let me practice. Because of John’s help I was able to get my license on the first try. John’s father, John Garton Sr. and Lou Tomasi were like family to us at CHYR. Thank you John, rest in peace sir.

To Cheryl, John’s children, grandchildren, families and friends
Though there is little consolation in a note from a friend in your hour of sorrow, we want to tell you how deeply we sympathize with you in the great loss you have suffered. Although it's been so very many years since we've seen him we have great memories of being neighbours in our wartime houses. It is our hope that you may find some kind of peace knowing that there are many people thinking of and praying for you at this most difficult time.
May there be comfort in knowing that with a quick thought, closing of your eyes, the wiping away of a tear, the beating of your heart, memories of John will be there for you always.
Rest in paradise John you will be missed and definitely never forgotten. You are at peace and that gives us comfort... Until we meet again...
